style. Style derives from love of the materials, delight in the arts
and crafts, and knowledge of the natural order. In these early collections
of Morrelli furniture his joyous interpretation of cultures is represented
in the lines, shapes and ornament. Now he is producing several new

Oba Derived from the ceremonial art of ancient
kingdom of Benin, this collection is a tribute to the majestic dignity
of the African peoples. The African kingdom of Benin, was a glorious
city, as big as Venice, made of Ebony with bronze ornament. The
people were foremost in the world in the art of bronze casting,
and rich with culture and social infrastructure ruled by the Oba.
The British destroyed Benin in 1887, its city burned, its kings
and people slaughtered, as revenge for an accident. (The punitive
expedition) The few bronze castings that survived in the cities
ashes are in various museums and private collections. These collections
inspired several great artists early last century. The mudfish chair
is dedicated to the Picasso in all of us.
